Openable elements in glass roof
Openable elements in glass roofs are technically demanding components of the transparent building envelope. Positioned in inclined or horizontal planes, they are exposed to increased heat transfer, solar radiation and exterior surface cooling. Their thermal performance therefore has a direct impact on energy balance, interior surface temperatures and summer comfort.
Optimized roof glazing systems combine high-performance insulated glazing with thermally refined frame constructions to limit heat losses and control solar gains. Reduced linear thermal bridges and elevated interior surface temperatures help prevent condensation and ensure hygienic, durable operation. In energy-efficient and Passive House buildings, openable roof elements must reconcile daylight, ventilation and building physics in one highly sensitive junction of the envelope.
