An element façade, also known as a unitized curtain wall, consists of factory-prefabricated façade units, typically spanning one storey in height, which are installed in front of the building’s structural frame. They can integrate opaque panels, glazing, and operable elements, and enable fast, high-quality installation due to their high level of prefabrication.
In the energy assessment, unitized curtain walls are treated analogously to stick-built curtain wall systems, with particular consideration given to thermal bridges at glass supports, fixings, connections, and floor slab interfaces. Three-dimensional effects of the pressure plate screw and glass carrier are also taken into account in the same way, giving a highly accurate picture of overall energy performance.
